In each "Abstraction: Artists and Perspectives" class, I will choose two artists who have different cultural backgrounds — for example, Franz Kline and Wang DongLing (above images) — but are dealing with the same pictorial language and/or similar subjects. I hope to introduce and investigate abstraction globally and outside of "isms." Selected artworks and subjects will reveal surprising resemblances and significant differences.

How It Works:

You will receive a Zoom invitation for this class. At the beginning of each class, I will be sharing a slide introducing Abstract artist’s artwork and their approach. Later, I will be give a small projects to experiment related to the subject and I will be making my own along with the class. We will share our artwork with the class so that we can inspire each other. This is the best way to learn and will lead to meaningful connections.

About Soo
My abstract images are produced by my inner need to question reality, experiences and current events. Having a nomadic life, I have been influenced by my Asian background and contemporary Western culture. I realize my process and ideas co-exist around multiple influences that cannot be stereotyped into one visual style. This class will offer a new way to experience and make abstract art insightful, intuitive and meditative.

*There is a $35 cancellation fee. There will be no refunds for cancellations received less than two weeks before the day of the workshop.
