Bio
Soo Hong is a visual artist working primarily in abstract painting. She has lived and exhibited in London, Shanghai, her native South Korea, and now the United States. These diverse experiences have shaped her observational practice, influenced by various cultural norms and expectations. Her dreamlike landscapes and fluid brushstrokes convey emotions such as excitement, loneliness, and longing, inspired by unsettling conditions. Through her paintings, she opens a portal to a new reality. A reality that is both alien and intimate, where she invites us to step in, to explore, to lose ourselves, and to see what unfolds in the unknown.
She received her MA from Central Saint Martins College of Arts in London, UK after BA in furniture design from Hong-Ik University in Korea. She had her solo shows in Chatwin Arts gallery, Linda Hodges Gallery, AMcE Creative Arts gallery and Kirkland Arts Center. She has been awarded and received grants from D&AD (London), GAP (Seattle), Bellevue Arts Program, and was a finalist for the Neddy Award (Seattle) in painting. Her work is part of the permanent collections at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, the city of Bellevue, and the city of Portland. She was commissioned from Nike, Puma, MTV, Miller, Hello Kitty, Meta, and Google. Currently, she lives and works in Bellevue, Washington.
